Our Mission

The Community Media Cooperative is a unique model of a media production collective involving democratic decision making, equal wages, collective ownership and individual agency. We strive to promote underrepresented voices and create media projects that make the world more livable.

Democratic Decision Making

In the Community Media Co-op all important decisions are made democratically amongst our members. Everyone votes on how the company functions, what company funds are spent on, what projects to take on, and more. Each individual has the agency to only work on projects they feel good about. Our team is hard working, self motivated, and socially conscious which has helped us make the democratically run creative team a reality.

Equal Pay

In each project, everyone involved makes the same wage. We believe that equal pay is a critical aspect of building a more equitable media company. Having equal pay means everyone has equal stake in the success of our projects.

No Hierarchy

We set out to create an organization without any hierarchy at all. This absence of hierarchy applies to both media project roles as well as the company in general. This means everyone involved has full creative liberty over the work they are doing and no one is working beneath or above anyone else. We keep projects cohesive by meeting throughout the process and tuning our work to each other’s, and the client’s ideas. We function without CEOs, shareholders or authority of any kind. Instead everyone in the co-op has equal power and equal responsibility, and we work together to fulfill our clients vision.

Socially Conscious Projects

We strive to make a positive impact on our community and on the world. We seek out clients who share our values of promoting diverse voices and making our communities better places to be. We created a workspace where we do our best work because we feel good about the people we’re partnering with.
